Here at Four Legged Guru, we love all animals. Pigs are especially one of our favorites however because there’s so much more to them than just a cute little face. Pigs are actually extremely intelligent animals that many of us take for granted. In honor of all the little piggies out there, we’ve rounded up 10 facts about pigs we bet you didn’t know. We hope this changes the way the world thinks of these beautiful creatures.
1) As stated before, pigs are very intelligent animals. They can be taught to play video games, and research has shown that they are more sophisticated than dogs.
2) Pigs actually don’t “pig out.” Instead, pigs prefer to eat slowly and enjoy their food.
3) They might like to mess around in mud, but that doesn’t mean they are dirty. Pigs actually won’t soil where they eat or sleep (if kept under the right conditions).
4) Pigs have lovely voices. Mother pigs have been known to sing to their babies.
5) Pigs are peaceful. Very rarely will you encounter an aggressive one.
6) They have an incredible sense of smell!
7) Pigs will eat almost anything, making them one of the ultimate animal survivors.
8) Pigs dream just like us.
9) They love to talk, and communicate with one another constantly.
10) They are AMAZING. In Lyall Watson’s book “The Whole Hog,” the biologist writes, “I know of no other animals [who] are more consistently curious, more willing to explore new experiences, more ready to meet the world with open mouthed enthusiasm. Pigs, I have discovered, are incurable optimists and get a big kick out of just being.”
