Cow Flees Meat Pack, But Doesn’t End Up Free

And now for a truly heartbreaking story.

A Pocatello, Idaho cow went through great lengths to flee a meat pack on Friday afternoon, only to be killed by police officers. According to the Idaho State Journal, the 1,000 pound heifer jumped a 6-foot fence and ran throughout the streets of the neighborhood trying to get away from Anderson Custom Pack.  After a wild chase, the police shot the cow, but he kept running. The cow was eventually cornered and shot again, until he eventually died.

The Idaho Statesman is reporting three more cows have since escaped, and two are supposedly still on the loose.

You don’t have to be a genius to realize that these cows were miserable and trying to save their own lives. There have been multiple studies indicating that cows have high emotional and intellectual responses to situations. They can feel pain, sadness and can even be pessimistic. We just hope the other two find a safe place to roam, although we’re not so confident in that.

Head over to the Idaho State Journal for more.

What do you think these Idaho cows were trying to do?
