Cats and playing go together like peanut butter and jelly. But what are some of the best cat toys to keep him occupied and away from being destructive?
We’ve all seen what happens to our homes when our cats decide that they’re bored and want something to do. Can you say scratched up furniture? Or even ripped up curtains?
Here are some fabulous, sure-fire objects that will keep your cat entertained.
A DVD
Okay, this may sound a little weird but it seriously works. Running a DVD all day for your cat gives them something to watch and listen to. Try something like the Mewvie Birdland DVD. It features things like birds flying around and chirping in an outdoor setting. This particular DVD can be set for a continuous loop so that it never goes off and your cat is entertained for the day.
Toy Box
Take an old box that you have and load it with toys that you know your cat really likes. These can be as inexpensive as balled up pieces of aluminum foil, whiffle balls, and catnip mice. Cut some holes in the sides and the top just so that your kitty can reach an arm in but not get the toy out. Make sure that any top on the box is loose and easy for the cat to pull off so that she feels like she has solved the world’s greatest feline puzzle. You may have to pick up her toys at the end of the day but it’s great entertainment.
Catnip
This has been a feline favorite since, well, Rover was a pup. Catnip can be put into things like toy mice or even in the shape of a cigar. Cats love these catnip cigars and it appears that the scent lasts a long time. You can also refresh these in the dryer and reuse them.
Babble Ball
Pet Querks puts out something called a Babble Ball which activates cat friendly sounds. Your cat will have a great time trying to find the source of the sound.
Paper Grocery Bags
This is an old standard that is a must in our house. We routinely tell clerks at the grocery store that we don’t want any plastic bags, just paper bags. And why? For the cat.
After going to the grocery store, make sure that all of the paper bags are laying in various places on the floor in the kitchen and living room. This gives your cat lots of places to jump into and, they are hoping, pop out of and surprise you.
Round Plastic Shower Curtain Rings
This may not sound like a lot of fun to you, but for your cat it’s going to be a blast. Part of the reason she will like it is because the curtain rings are light, easy to slap around and chase, and they make noise. That is the kitty trifecta.
Cat toys don’t have to be expensive and they certainly don’t have to be fancy. As long as she has a great time and stays away from scratching your sofa, it’s a hit. Just remember to keep small objects that can be swallowed away from your kitty.
