If you’re beloved pet went missing, how much money and how many resources would you use to find him/her?
One District of Columbia woman has spent $35,000 so far, and is still continuing her search. According to the Associated Press, Janet Mihalyfi lost her 5-year-old Rottweiler mix a year ago. Mihalyfi said she took her dogs off their leases at a park when a deer came running by and both dogs ran after it. However, her dog Havoc, never came back. “Anybody that has a pet knows that they are a family member,” Mihalyfi said. “I love him as I would anybody that I’m close with … I can’t give up on him.”
The money has gone to psychics, a dog investigator, food and fliers. Mihalyfi says she spends her weekends constantly searching for Havoc, who is microchipped, however all she has come across are tips from people in the area. Havoc has reportedly been seen in two wooded parks in the area, that are thousands of miles long. “It just feels like all these efforts — why am I not getting closer to getting to him?” Mihalyfi questioned. The good news however, is that Havoc has indeed been seen — so Mihalyfi’s search is not in vain.
Sadly, besides the support from a volunteer group who is helping her in her search, Mihalfyi has just met criticism due the amount of money she has spent searching for her dog. “I know people are in shock by the number but there’s also a correlation between how long I go after this,” she said. “Lost-dog searches are expensive and this has lasted a year.”
We can definitely sympathize with Mihalyfi, and after all, who are we to say she’s spending too much money to find a member of her family? We can only imagine what she has been going through the past year, and we so hope she finds Havoc soon. Read more about her struggle right here. You can also visit her website Bring Havoc Home.
