Essentials to Have When Taking Your Dog on a Hike

Essentials when taking your dog on a hikeAs the summer comes to a close, you may be planning one last great hike in the great outdoors with your faithful dog by your side.   There is something to remember, though: They call these the “dog days of summer” for a good reason. It is critical that you consider these few essentials when taking your dog taking your dog on a hike. Some of the essentials include:

Hydration

Water is important for both you and your dog. Be sure that you pack enough for the two (or more) of you. One easy gadget that is useful and carries a significant amount of the golden liquid you both require are hydration packs. These are carried as a backpack, but carry various amounts of water, depending on what size you choose. It’s suggested you go for a larger capacity, especially if you are hiking with more than one dog.

Travel Water Bowl

All the water in the world isn’t going to do your pooch any good if you don’t have something to serve it in for him. There are a variety of collapsible water bowls on the market to suit both your stylish and size requirements. It may also double up as a food bowl if you’re going for a really long hike.

Bandanas

Bandanas come in handy for a variety of situations as an essential when taking your dog taking your dog on a hike. You may get one wet and tie it around your dog’s neck – loosely, of course – to provide a little cool relief in the hot sun. It’s also a handy tool to have in case of a medical emergency since they can be used as a bandage on the fly, or as a way to brace an injured paw or leg.

First Aid Kit

It’s always smart to bring a basic needs first aid kit along with you. It doesn’t have to be fully encompassing, but cover all the things that need to support you and your dog until you can get more assistance. One thing to always remember to have in your kit is a good pair of tweezers since splinters from the terrain are a common cause of injured paws.

A Sense of Fun and Adventure

Above all else, have fun with your pup! Keep things safe, but find ways to create memories with your dog as you venture out for the last time this summer. Don’t get so wrapped up in the preparation that you neglect to pack essentials when taking your dog taking your dog on a hike
