The number of stories we read about abused dogs seems to be getting higher and higher. What helps get us through these terrible posts is the fact that many of these pups are rescued, treated and eventually adopted. However, this is not always the case.
Animal Care & Control in San Francisco reported on Monday that a severely abused male pit bull/terrier mix has died from his injuries. Maximilian, as the 1 or 2-year-old pup was called by the shelter, was found with blunt force trauma to his head, missing teeth, paws with missing pads and cigarette burns. It turns out he was stolen from his owner, and these injuries occurred one or two days before he was found. He reportedly passed away from kidney failure. “He endured so much abuse that his body was not able to recover despite the vet staff’s efforts,” ACC wrote on Facebook. “We are still pursuing leads to find the person who did this to him. Because of the tips generated by Maddie’s Fund’s reward, our officers were able to find Maximilian’s owner. Maximilian had been stolen from him. He loved and cared for Max, and was horrified at what happened to his dog. He was able to be with Maximilian while he was euthanized. Thank you to everyone for the kind words and support for Maximilian. We will do our best to catch and prosecute whoever did this.”
Animal Care & Control along with Maddie’s Fund is now offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for doing this to Maximilian.
