Business Focus: The Most Popular Dog Bakeries

Over the past 10 years or so, dog bakeries have started to emerge as viable business. Specifically, for dog treats and natural dog food.

In this edition of Business Focus, we wanted to tell you about these bakeries and even give you some names and cities where you might be able to visit them and become a regular customer.

How it started

Dogs can be finicky — this is nothing new. And many dogs have food allergies to grains like corn, wheat and even gluten. What is a pet parent to do? Start making dog treats at home! With that idea, a business idea was born.

Three Dog Bakery

Located in Missouri, this business was started with one mission in mind: To bake fresh, from scratch, the world’s best dog treats and give pet parents everywhere something that they can feel good about sharing with their furry family members. In business since 1989, they are now in online shipping of: Bake to Nature, baked kibble products for dogs, Gracie’s Gourmet, a line of wet dog food, and about 20 varieties of baked treats under the Three Dog Bakery brand.

Ry’s Ruffery

This is the 10-year-old who won the hearts of Shark Tank fans everywhere… including Shark Barbara Corcoran. Ryan began his adventure of Ryan’s Barkery after his two-month-old rescue beagle turned her nose up at store bought treats.

Soon after, he began experimenting with flavors with his mom’s help. After making his first batch of homemade, all natural treats, his new BFF gobbled them down. They were a hit. Thanks to Shark Tank, Ryan’s dog delicacies are hitting stores everywhere. You can also order online through the Ry’s Ruffery website.

Cleo’s Barkery

Cleo is a 9-year-old Doberman/Bull Terrier mix and is the queen of the barkery in New York City. Besides yummy treats, Cleo’s specializes in canine wear as well as birthday cakes for your pup with all the party trimmings. Cakes come in 6”, 8” or 10” sizes and are all meat cakes.

From all natural dog cookies and treats to a line of pet food and cakes, check out and visit your local pet food bakeries today.
