In Imperial China, female pugs had royal rankings.
Is it insulting to be at the same level as a pug or is it a compliment? According to PugVillage, back in the day, members of the Chinese imperial household and monasteries were the only ones allowed to own this royal dog. These pugs were considered to be so high ranking that they were even present around royal visitors AND considered to be the same ranking as the emperor’s wife. The emperor Ling To even gave an automatic death sentence to anyone who tried to steal a pug. Yikes!
One of my tenants has a pug. That dog is so quiet you wouldn’t even know there was a dog in the house. He always seems so happy to see you. A pug would be one of my first choices for a pet.
