If you’re feeling a bit down today, we have just the thing to cheer you up. Meet Smiley, a therapy dog, who is inspiring people everywhere.
According to CBS NEWS, the lovable Golden Retriever was born without eyes and with dwarfism. 10 years ago, he was saved at the age of two from a puppy mill by Joanne George. After George realized how smitten people became when they encountered smiley, she decided to get him trained as a therapy dog.
For the past seven years, Smiley has been apart of the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog program in Ottawa, Canada. Every day, he visits retirement homes, special needs children and nursing homes, constantly bringing a smile to everyone’s face. Smiley doesn’t allow his disability to stop him from helping people to be more positive. “Dogs can come back from anything, they forget their past,” George said. “We as humans, dwell on the past.”
Now that Smiley is 12 years old, he unfortunately only has a couple of more years left to spread his cheer to people. He is moving a bit slower, but according to his owner, his tail never stops wagging, and that smile doesn’t fad. “He came on my first date with me. He was my ring bearer at my wedding. Then I was pregnant,” George described the countless memories. “He’s changed my life.”
