7 Home Pet Remedies To Try Today

There are times when we need to be able to take care of our pets’ needs at home without running to the veterinarian.  Now, admittedly, these are non-life-threatening issues. The home pet remedies we’re talking about are for things like removing tartar from your pet’s teeth, soothing an upset tummy or even taking care of a mild case of diarrhea. But we do suggest checking with your vet before trying any of these at home!

Plaque on Dog’s Teeth

Raw carrots can work wonders to scrape away plaque from your dog’s teeth.  The texture of the carrot will also combine with your dog saliva to assist him in removing loose food particles.

Diarrhea

If your dog is suffering from an intestinal bug, give her some flavorless electrolyte water to keep her strong after having some bouts of diarrhea. It’s also recommended that you have your dog fast to stop further bouts of the runs.  If your dog has diarrhea for any more than a day, then it’s time to see your vet.

Upset Stomach

You know how you feel when your tummy is upset.  Sometimes the only thing you want is some herbal tea. This can also help your dog as well.  Chamomile tea has a wonderful disinfecting property that has been known to relieve colic, gas and even anxiety.

Healthy Digestion

Just as it is for humans, a small amount of plain yogurt can keep your dog’s digestive tract in great shape.  The good bacteria helps your dog get rid of the bad doggie bacteria and it’s also a great way to prevent yeast infections.

Bladder Health

If you see that your cat is susceptible to bladder problems, try a little unsweetened cranberry juice to help her out.  This acidity helps prevent blockages. It’s a good idea to talk to your vet first about safe dosages of cranberry juice, but when you have the okay, add some to her water dish.

Fleas

This is a home remedy for both cats and dogs and it works equally well.  If you find that your dog or cat is suffering from fleas, try adding a small amount of brewer’s yeast to their food.

Itching

You have a dog who is suffering from a skin ailment?  If so, try putting a form fitting T-shirt made of a light cotton fabric on your dog and this will help prevent allergens from getting on her skin.
