Dog Jumps In Front Of Bus To Save Owner

And now for a real act of heroism. A service dog saved his blind owner’s life.

According to ABC News, a golden retriever named Figo jumped in front of an oncoming Brewster, New York school bus, which was headed for his owner Audrey Stone. “I’ve seen dogs protect their owners when an intruder is coming at them, but not from an automobile,” Brewster Village’s chief of police John Del Gardo told ABC News. “I’ve never seen that before.”

Figo quite possibly saved his owner’s life, however Stone is still being treated for numerous fractures, broken ribs and a head laceration. Figo himself also had to undergo surgery, but is doing very well. His vet, Dr. LouAnn Pfeifer said that she isn’t surprised by Figo’s actions. “This is what they’re trained for,” she said. “He’s a good boy. He’s been a patient of ours since he was in service of Miss. Stone and he is just a wonderful dog.”

While it’s true, this is what service dogs are trained to do, it’s incredible that they actual can do something has heroic as this. If you’ve been around a skittish pup before, you know that getting him or her to do anything, let alone save someone’s life, is nearly impossibly. This proves that Figo is a special pup, and it also proves that dogs truly are man’s best friend!
